ACCORDING TO A CERTAIN PATTERN

Coming across these strange objects, I couldn't help but think of Italo Calvino's Armilla's Invisible City: 'fact is, it has no walls, no ceilings, no floors: it has nothing to make it look like a city, except for the water pipes, which go up vertically where there should be houses and branch off where there should be floors: a forest of pipes that end in faucets, showers, siphons, overflows.' They spill out of the ground like telescopes, like characters telling of water and its control, its transportation and management, and touching -from one fund to another- the theme of boundary and ownership.

Imbattendomi in questi strani oggetti, non ho potuto fare a meno di pensare alla città invisibile di Armilla di Italo Calvino: 'fatto sta che non ha muri, né soffitti, né pavimenti: non ha nulla che la faccia sembrare una città, eccetto le tubature dell'acqua, che salgono verticali dove dovrebbero esserci le case e si diramano dove dovrebbero esserci i piani: una foresta di tubi che finiscono in rubinetti, docce, sifoni, troppopieni". Fuoriuscivano dal terreno come telescopi, come personaggi che raccontano dell'acqua e del suo controllo, del suo trasporto e gestione, e che sfiorano -da un fondo all'altro- il tema del confine e della proprietà.
