IPOTESI is an installation project that intertwines photography, geography and memory through the theme of crossing and movement. Developed as an evolution of the research project THE BATTERY IS RUNNING LOW (Fotoforum Bolzano, 2018), the work brings together images created during journeys along some of Europe’s major rivers, transforming the landscape into a living archive of experiences and relationships.

The project follows two river routes: from the Drava to the Danube and onward to the Black Sea, and from the Sava to the Vistula, moving beyond political borders through a natural and fluid geography. The photographs, arranged within the exhibition space as an open and traversable map, interact with immersive projections that reconstruct the rivers’ paths and identify the exact locations where the images were taken.

For Canelles, the camera becomes a performative device: the image emerges from the encounter between control and chance, between waiting and transformation. The photographic journey thus becomes a practice of knowledge, where walking, observing and pausing create a relationship between body, territory and memory.

IPOTESI presents a poetic atlas of contemporary Europe: a constantly moving map where space, time and individual experience open up to a collective dimension.

IPOTESI è un progetto installativo che intreccia fotografia, geografia e memoria attraverso il tema dell’attraversamento. Nato come evoluzione della ricerca THE BATTERY IS RUNNING LOW (Fotoforum Bolzano, 2018), il lavoro raccoglie immagini realizzate durante viaggi lungo alcuni dei principali fiumi europei, trasformando il paesaggio in un archivio vivo di esperienze e relazioni.

Il progetto segue due itinerari fluviali: dalla Drava al Danubio fino al Mar Nero e dalla Sava alla Vistola, superando i confini politici attraverso una geografia naturale e fluida. Le fotografie, disposte nello spazio espositivo come una mappa attraversabile, dialogano con proiezioni immersive che ricostruiscono il percorso dei fiumi e indicano i luoghi esatti degli scatti.

La macchina fotografica diventa per Canelles un dispositivo performativo: l’immagine nasce dall’incontro tra controllo e casualità, tra attesa e trasformazione. Il viaggio fotografico diventa così una pratica di conoscenza, in cui camminare, osservare e sostare costruiscono una relazione tra corpo, territorio e memoria.

IPOTESI propone un atlante poetico dell’Europa contemporanea: una mappa in movimento dove spazio, tempo ed esperienza individuale si aprono a una dimensione collettiva.
