2013 PREMISES OF THE PROJECT PREMESSE DEL PROGETTO

Starting from the language of theatre and visual art, the "Zattere" project has always set itself the objective of activating a transit of communication between art and society, within which the artistic creative process could offer indispensable tools for a reading of contemporary reality, its needs and its emergencies, starting from the reflection of young emerging artists or those still in the training phase.

Since 2013, theatrical and visual art workshops have been held, leading the young participants to reflect on the themes contained in Gericault's painting The Raft of the Medusa.

The rafts as stations of passage, with a conceptual and flexible structure, above which a series of contributions and interactions with the public took shape.

TRAVEL IL VIAGGIO

Initially, the journey began as a platform, a raft, a place to stop, reflect, listen and see, rest, talk and exchange, completed by the presence of people and a series of questions: what does this raft produce in real time? In what it produces, is it possible to identify an activity much more complex than a simple exhibition, because it contains different cycles of use, a variety of uses? What is divided and exchanged? Zattere, therefore, has become something more than an idea, but an inevitable relationship between the arts and the rest of social activities, the inevitable relationships, which together create values and hierarchies, which govern, which establish their politics both materially and conceptually.

As such, the "Rafts" are of different dimensions, there was no hierarchy of importance between meetings, seminars, performances, exhibitions: each of them represented an equally valid way of working. there was no desire to formalize the "Rafts" in an institution of a kind.

The residential workshops were set up and conceived by an open and dynamic working group composed of young artists from various expressive languages in the fields of theatre, music, visual art and stage writing, with the aim of activating a non-stereotyped reflection on the social emergencies of the territory, starting with Gericault's painting La Zattera della Medusa.

Through the workshops, the students were asked to reread or reinvent the themes addressed and question themselves, through the means of expression, about the changes (or disguises) of art itself.

2014-2015

Over the following years, the project has expanded its scope, involving realities of excellence in the international art scene and leading figures in the world of curating and art criticism. The association Studio Openspace and Spazio5 was the protagonists of the project management, as a cultural space of reference.  Keeping faith with the issues addressed in previous years, the project has been joined by realities such as City of Art - Fondazione Pistoletto di Biella, Arch + art and personalities such as Michelangelo Pistoletto, Maria Rosa Sossai, Manuela Sedmach, and many others.  During 2014, the development phases of a project were thus carried out which, in the following year, would lead to the creation of an artistic platform on the social theme of the abandonment of places, of their reuse, obviously tackling the theme not so much on an architectural level as on a social one.

2014 was therefore the year of change and passage. The working group identified the Fondazione Pistoletto,-Cittàdelarte as the ideal partner for a project on the borderline between the artistic and social dimensions. The relationship established in Biella in September 2014 directly with Maestro Michelangelo Pistoletto allowed to discuss and activate deep reflections on the development of the project, to set a medium-long term direction and orienting methods of realization and future concept of a common project.

The dialogue has in fact stabilized with the adhesion of Michelangelo Pistoletto to the opening of the Spazio5 office with the establishment of a work table and a workshop on the concept of the Third Paradise, a theme that was later central to the future of the project. In the same days, significantly the same Master, called by the same curator of Spazio5, attended a debate on the Third Paradise during the opening of a Land Art project, promoted by the association Modo of Udine in order to amplify the debate and prepare the ground for the regional development of the project.

The reflection on the Third Paradise, in fact, matured in December 2014 with the adhesion of the Galilei school of Trieste in the context of a project on the Rebirth day, a symbolic day of the Third Paradise, on the occasion of which a video documentation is made, then projected and proposed to the public during the final event of 2015.
